I've read all the product package inserts, the booklet, this site, the Obagi site, called the Drs' office and still all I have found is the comment: "The redness and peeling only lasts about two weeks and is not noticably bad"

Well, I'm on day 14 and that comment couldn't be farther from my truth.  I started peeling and turned bright red on day 3 and it hasn't slowed down, nor is it showing any signs of easing up.  "Not noticably bad"?  I look like I have ten times the worst sun burn my life (I'm talking ripe watermelon red!) and the peeling!!!!.....So, there is no putting on makeup to try to make the red "not noticable"

Pippa, I laughed at your comment "I am going to be strong and continue on!"  I seem to be saying that to myself all day, everyday.  The doctor said that if I used Action or Tolereen it would slow down the process.  So my thought was ok, lets just get this done, no delays.  He did say that this first six week cycle was going to be the "six weeks from he##".  Two weeks later, I'm beginning to wonder.

I guess my question:  Is it possible that I'm going to be bright red and peely for the entire time I use these products?

No you will not be bright red the whole time. This is my second time around. I never really got bright red, but the peeling was unbelievable. Once you get to the maintenance stage, things will definitely slow down, and you will be able to wear foundations again. It really is not a long time if you think about it. I started now, because it is summer time and who wears alot of makeup in the summer? I figured I could get away with the peeling at this time. Just have to avoid the sun. Good luck to you.

Thank you for the well wishes and your response.  I know you are correct, it just seems bad and it really isn't that much time compared to the potential results.   Maybe I just needed to communicate with someone who has actually experienced this.  My husband, bless his heart, just keeps telling me: you look fine, you look like you've been out in the sun.  I hadn't thought about it but I guess this is one of the best times of the year to start this.

You mentioned that this is your second time.  Do you mind if I ask how long you used the products before going on to the maintenance stage?  (Based on my consultation, the Nu-Derm line was brought up originally because of the Blue Peel...they use this system to prepare the skin prior to the peel.  My "plan" is to go through two six week cycles of the Nu-Derm line and then determine if a Blue Peel is really necessary.)  Does that sound at all familiar?

I actually did the obagi system for  6 weeks gradually the first time. I went on to maintenance and was still peeling. I guess I had alot of damage to be corrected. I was told since I only took a 3 month break it should not be as bad this time around, and can incorporate vitamin c into the regimen after two weeks. I really did have compliments from people, especially people I would not see for a while. I guess I never noticed the change until I stopped. I did not need the blue peel according to my derm. I think that is for alot of sun damage and wrinkles. Keep me posted and I will do the same.

I wanted to add, I am going to try 8 weeks, I have a wedding in August, so I will back off of retin a and then move on to maintenance. I was told to shock the skin every three months and go through the orginal program again. I will have to see, I never had to do that the first time around. Take Care.
