I've been using the products for four months now;  I'm very happy with the results but how do I know I'm ready for maintenance?

I have read different times. The official book says at least one skin cycle which is 6 weeks. Now I think it is suggested at least three skin cycles, which is 18 weeks. I would say you are ready. Are you still peeling? Also depends how much damage there is. When I was originally on it I did it for 8 weeks. Then maintenance but was still peeling. I am not peeling as much now so I may even go on maintenance after 6 weeks. Are you happy with the way your skin looks now?

I am very happy with the results, there are still a few spots left that I wanted to get rid of, but overall very happy.  I'm not pealing that much at all, but my face is still red. Is it supposed to be red after four months?

I am not really sure about the redness. I never really experienced it, just lots of peeling. Is it bright red, or just glowing with pinks? If you want to get rid of some more spots I would stick to the program until they are gone, then you can maintain. HTHs.

Hello! I questioned the peeling and the redness last week (today is my day 23 on the products). At the time, Pippa was kind enough to talk me through it. Thankfully, after another week the peeling has calmed down some and as far as the redness, I think I am getting used to it. I am no longer a glowing watermelon red, more like a true bad sunburn red.  Although, it does look funny because the redness extends to just under my jaw line. I guess some people are just prone to be red.  My doctor's response was that it is just my skin's reaction, another way to know the products are working.  I did notice that in some of the before and after pictures provided here that some of the women (I think the fourth and fifth pictures) are still a bit red and the rest of the women are not.

With regard to the vitamin C.  I have been using the 5% and 10% Cffectives since day one.  I use it right after the toner, before the clear.  In the beginning so much was going on with my skin that I wasn’t sure what product was doing what. What I think I’ve discovered during the third week is that right after I apply the vitamin c, it really does help calm down the peeling.  Also, my skin doesn’t feel as tight or as dry. (However; on days that there is significant peeling, using the vitamin c feels a little like squeezing a lemon when you have a cut on your finger).

So far though, the products seem to be totally worth the experience.  I have had a "cafe au lait" stain on my cheek since my early twenties and it is almost gone.  Amazing!

Hi kmbr. I have a question. Did your doctor say it was okay to use vitamin c with the exfoderm?  I am on day 14 and peeling around the chin and sides of nose. I have been using action ths time and alot less peeling but I am sure it will take longer to see results. Thats okay by me. I am a bit red on the chin only. I think my skin is still purging, I am finding some breakouts on my skin, nothing major though. Glad you are hanging in there. I am in it for the long haul this time. Take care.

To your question: yes.  My routine is am: foaming cleanser, toner, cffectives, clear, exfoderm forte, SPF 35; and pm: foaming cleanser, toner, cffectives, clear, blender, tretinoin.  (I can remember thinking: yeah right, I have an eighteen month old and I'm going to do all that?  Luckily, I got the hang of it very quickly and it hasn't been a problem).  The only thing we talked about as another option was to add the Tolereen or Action, but as you said, it may slow things down a bit and I decided to do without.  I too have been noticing breakouts over the past week, just small spots (much better than before I started this).

I think I remember in an earlier post that you mentioned you may be adding the vitamin C after a certain amount of time.  It would be interesting to know if you notice the same thing that I did...that the peeling is even more controlled than what you are experiencing or if you notice any of those hydrating effects (or maybe it isn't the vitamin C at all).  You take care as well.

Yes, I was told I could add vitamin c after a few weeks, use it in place of exfoderm. Not sure if I want to give up exfoderm. When I go on maintenance, I will use vitamin c and alternate. I know what you mean about remembering. I have three children, my youngest 2. Skincare is very important to me, especially now that I am approaching the big 40. I think you are right about the vitamin c. It definitely helps control the redness. I know obagi just came out with a new line called obagi C.

I totally understand.   I have become acutely aware of my age, health, skin condition, etc. (and I'm not approaching, I'm looking straight back at it...I turned 40 just after my daughter was born).  I have not had problems with my skin since my early twenties, but at about four months pregnant that all changed and it hasn't stopped.  I actually went to the dermatologist for micro-dermabrasion but found out that they couldn't do it because I took Accutane when I was twenty.    When talking about other options, I told him I had read about how effective vitamin c was for forty+ skin and that is when he told me about the Obagi line.  I was not aware that there is a new line, I will be interested to learn more.

I am also wanting to know the answer to your question.  I have been using Obagi since February and am happy with the results.  I have had reactions from people as to the difference in my skin's appearance.  Some have even said that I look younger.  I am wondering if I need to add something (C-Effectiveness) or just lay off a couple of steps.   I do want to schedule a blue peel yet am waiting until the fall.  It would be terribly hard to stay out of the sun completely for a week or two.  Any experiences or suggestions.  By the way, I purchased my first order from Obagime and am turning on a friend who is also on Obagi to the terrific prices!  Thanks.

Are you on the maintenance system now? You should be. I would incorporate the vitamin c as it is an antioxidant and helps protect from sun damage etc. You still need your sunscreen!  If you are getting compliments why would you want to change anything? I would just continue what you are doing. Vitamin c can only help further so you may want to try it.
